Activity

Students will use the SHOM Understand art worlds to explore the ideas of the artist Jen Starks work. I will give each of them either one or two organically shaped pieces of paper and some markers. They will be able to doodle and draw on them and I was emphasize filling the whole paper edge to edge. I am debating adding lines for them to fill in like the picture but haven’t decided. Then we will overlap them over each other to make a sort of collage for the art show. They will explore interests, themes, and ideas all of which have been influenced by the exploration they have done in the class so far. We will emphasize the idea of collaborative art. They will look similar but not exact to this:

Pre-Assessment/Discussion

I will first explain to students SHOM and talk about what it means to understand arts worlds in a project with a class discussion and sharing with partners. Then we will talk about Jenn Stark. Lastly I will show them an example and we will get together and collaboratively make.

Post-Assessment

I will go around and ask students what they thought of collaborative and if they found any challenges with their project. Through this I should be able to see their play and exploration. I might ask leading questions such as:

· What was easy with the project?

· What is your favorite part of making collaboratively?

· What was challenging with this project?
