Artists will: combine interdisciplinary aspects from Science, math, and art as they layer, use shape stencils, and learn about color.
Activity
Students will use the SHOM Develop Craft to learn how to monotype print using Gelli Plates. They will explore different techniques such as using a gradient, layering ink, and using objects to block out the ink. I will teach it as a I do you do class where I first demonstrate the techniques in steps and they follow along. Im doing it this way because monotype printing is rather complex and messy and I want to make sure that they are learning the proper steps. This should still allow enough freedom for them to make decisions such as colors, composition, and shapes that block out. We will also focus on using the materials correctly

Pre-Assessment/Discussion
Both Haleigh and I will first explain to students SHOM and talk about what it means to Develop a Craft with a class discussion. Then we will talk about the two choices of projects, mine being Gelli printing and I think she’s doing something with building or architecture. The kids will get to choose which project to do. If they choose mine then we will talk about what printmaking is, what a gradient is, what layering is, and what blocking out color is.
Post-Assessment
I will go around and ask students what they learned about gelli printing. Through this I should be able to see their play and exploration. I might ask leading questions such as:
· What is your favorite part of print?
· What was your favorite technique?
· What would you do differently next time?
· What was hard to do when printing?
